Dark and Stormy

It was either a dark and stormy night … or Monday …. I always seem to get those two confused. Grateful that Australia has just the cure …. Alcohol called “Dark and Stormy.” It is ginger-beer and rum, already pre-mixed in a can, and tends to make you forget what day of the week it even is …. If we tried that in Canada it just wouldn’t be the same … working with what we have we would end up with maple syrup and rum …

This dress was on special for $100L at RFYRE. Sometimes you just have to dress to suit your mood … wish you could do this in real life – put on the appropriate skin and shape and attach warning lights so innocent children and small animals can safely escape …

I was particularly pleased to find grandpa’s boots for sale … used to wear them as a kid and fall and hurt myself … I guess it is true what they say in fashion .. what is old is new again … or maybe grandpa was right when someone tried to sell him some “antiques.” He growled and said, “Had some of those years ago … we called them “junk”…. right before we hoisted them off the back of the truck into the dump…” He would be so proud of me having paid $500L for these puppies …. But hey … sometimes a girl just has to stomp ….. and besides … it’s Monday ….

Ode to Escher.

Escher was an artist who liked to play with architecture, perspective and impossible spaces. I certainly have been referred to as impossible on a number of occasions …. Most of them did not come out well for me and involved an authority figure … and unlike the intended compliment that was paid to Escher, the reference to me was usually meant as an observation of some disgust ….

Being impossible simply means that you do not conform to what is expected and like it or not … that is me. I have never conformed, never gone along with the crowd (even in those tough teenage years when it is the biggest source of angst) – I have always embraced and celebrated all that makes me different. So this dress, and Escher, have my heartfelt thanks for the willingness to be impossible.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!

Read the offical big announcement here: http://digitalimagefashion.blogspot.com/2009/06/introducing-new-bloggers-at-digital.html

Scarlett Niven is quite an amazing woman - she has done some amazing things in SL and is just getting started. You should definitely check out her website which is just one small branch of her many undertakings. It is a privilege to have the opportunity to work with a woman like her and to learn. All joking aside, some of these women are incredibly talented and work very hard. It is easy to laugh at the foibles but I never mean it to undermine the substance ... just to lighten the mood and mostly to laugh at myself.

Turquoise Touches

So I was walking around in this outfit looking for a great place to take the pic and this guy walked up to me. He said, "Caio" and I was like sooo excited... a friend had just had a romantic little incident with an Italian that turned out really well. I said, "Hello." - only after exhausting endless possibilities of witty comebacks .... and he said "No speeek Italian?" I said, "no, sorry" and he said "It's ok" and then he asked "where are you from?" and I answered, "Australia" he said "ahhh " and then he vanished ..... alright .... where did I go wrong and can I sue the Australian government for wrecking my social life ... look into that will you ... and get back to me ...

Lots of little bits and pieces today in this outfit ... most of them free or nearly free. New Toulouse Algiers is so worth a visit - great clothes at great prices and so many gifts or near gifts. She has also done the most beautiful job with her shop and the area around it ... absolutely gorgeous.

First time skins from Fishy Strawberry - now available and really nicely done. Comes in 3 shades.

Taupe Tonight

There is something about Taupe that is elegant and always unexpectedly understated - colors have always fascinated me and especially the names they are given. (Please file under things you were dying to know about Bliss and now you do ... your lives are almost complete ....)
I could not believe the number of beautiful gifts and freebies available from ROC – well worth a look around. Seriously, I was very impressed, joined up on the spot and will visit frequently.

The earrings are from this little store called Junk – some really different pieces there and priced just right. Also picked up 2 other pairs and a sweet pack of glitter earrings with several different colors.

Cupcakes is having huge sales on their skins right now – she has packed up some of the skins with a great outfit – several different options – all for @250L and throughout the week she has done some great quick deals of buy any pack and get a $1000L gift card. Cupcakes is always generous and always gives good value for the dollar. I have to say these skins are some of my favourites and I have so many it is probably obsessive on my part now …. But I promise I do not have them lined up in a neat row in a cupboard ( no they are in a neat row in the filing cabinet …. Lol)

TP’d to the shoes – they have closed. That happens a lot to stores after I have been there … something about the bylaws and nudity and inappropriate behaviour … I always leave before the police show up so I usually don’t get the follow up … unless on those rare occasions they find out where I live, arrest me, I go to court and part of my probation is dealing with the aftermath … then I usually get lots of pics and details …..this one … no idea ….

Hair love love love the short cuts … this one is obviously one of my favourites.

Posh!!!

Ok I admit I closed my eyes and squealed a little bit going through the door into POSH for the first time .... – just because the whole Spice Girl thing drives me a little crazy. When Sporty Spice had the issue with her weight BALLOONING out of control and all the media referring to her as a “fat pig” – and they had the pics to prove it – I was generally disheartened when she showed up in my home town. Saw her in person …. she was … (please be downsitting folks this is gonna be a shocker, cover your mouths and be prepared to gasp …. ) a Size 8. YUP!!! It was then I realized just how sickly the rest of them are just to be able to pull off a great photo that we can all pin up on our walls and die trying to achieve. (picking up my dart and throwing it at my almost obliterated pic of the Spice Girls)

HOWEVER – this POSH store is nothing at all like that – great clothes, generous gifts. This nice little number is just sitting all packaged with a pretty bow on the coffee table for you. Check out some of their other stores that are participating in the HOPE HUNT – great gifts in their roses as well … all free!!!

Special mention also to Le Pinceau – great skins. Check it out.

Lapping in UP!!!!

So I told you about the fabulous Moulin Rouge outfits at Diram … this is the Christina one and I can only say if I had this in real life I would be so wearing it to work. Tired of them not taking me seriously. The only problem for me here in SL is that evidentally my boobs … only size 400mm are not quite enough to fill it out. BUT HEY, we all live under illusions ... like thinking you look hot only to find out you are 8 feet tall and evidentally only good for pushing peas if you can find a green skin, a leaf dress, live in a valley somewhere, find the hand on hip pose, and learn the line "HO HO HO" with a really deep voice ... queue kermit the frog singing “It isn’t easy being Green.”)

So checked out some of the HOPE HUNT locations which took me to Sxy2nd sim which is great with it’s pier and the ferris wheel and lots of great shopping. Found this one store NOON and picked up my yellow rose and didn’t think too much about it. Got back home and VOILA - 7 CHAIRS!!! I liked the chairs BUT when I SAT on one …. WOOOOOHOOOOO …. (thank heavens I put my panties on..) I was a bumping and a grinding like a pro. I immediately cancelled my name off the 3 year waiting list for the Donald Trump School of Lap Dance by Correspondance. You can't buy these kinds of opportunities folks .... and I didn't!!! It fell into my lap!!!

I am so going to put them around the dining room table for guests …..

Oh and Shay … may have to leave work a little early each night … I am picking up a little extra money on the side …. Woohoo…. (anyone want a singing-lap-o-gram???....call me….)

The Typing Pool Wants YOU!!!

Well probably not YOU ... they really want ME ... but the poster says "Uncle someone wants YOU" so if I said ME it would not have been so darn intelligent and cute and you probably would not be reading this right?

I went for a job interview once. It was for a temporary office position. They said dress conservatively so I put a bra on – figured I could still get away without the panties because who would notice and if the interview was gonna go that way … they would have called it a “date.”

They asked me a lot of tough questions like “What do you think are your best assets?” So I draped myself across his desk and told him I found it really hard to chose and I asked for his opinion. He seemed to be really seriously considering which he liked best until that whiny (pinch your nose when you talk and make your voice really high and affected like …)secretary came in and gasped and dropped her steno pad. It sorta wrecked the moment … you know…

Anyway I wanted to know which office was gonna be mine and who would be decorating it. I also told him I didn’t like my desk cluttered up with uneccessary things like those machines everyone sits at and moves their hands on.

Whiny-voice said there was another appointment waiting and so I had to go. She said they would get back to me … but something in the way she rolled her eyes and snorted …. I am pretty perceptive you know …. I am still waiting for the phonecall … it’s been 3 years … do you think I should call them? I know, I know …. Tooo pushy right?

What Really Went Down This Weekend at Linden Labs.

My flight arrived under cover of darkness …. I hailed a cab and headed over to my destination . The cab pulled up outside a seedy neighbourhood. “This can’t be right,” I protested to the cabby. He looked at the piece of paper I held in my hand and pointed at the number on the dilapidated old shack …it was definitely the right address. Reluctantly I got out and walked up to the front door as the cabby sped off …. there was no going back. I walked across the old tire tubes, around a broken down washing machine, and skirted around various piles of dirty laundry … yep this had to be the place. Finally I reached the door and started to knock when the door swung open, protesting as it did with a saddened groan. Something about the sound was sadly familiar as it called to a place within my own soul. It took a minute for my eyes to adjust the room was completely in the dark. It seemed somehow appropriate to the circumstances that had brought me there. As my eyes swept over the room …. cobwebs and broken dreams lay everywhere …. an old child’s science kit was neatly laid out on an upside down cardboard box and someone had crudely written across the box “Lab – KEEP OUT – NO girls allowed.” And then I saw him … sitting on a wooden crate, crayolas in one hand, etch-a-sketch in another ….muttering something about new and improved versions of SL …. I had found Mr. Linden!!!

Party Pants.

Summer in Australia is the best argument for nudity I’ve ever known … but if you have to put something on, please God let be light and airy like this little cover up top from Twosome. It comes with a white bikini and a couple of variations on the top including a see through version which looks nice over other colors. Not that it is summer here now (I am under my heavy doona shivering, closing my eyes really tight and pretending it’s hot ok … don’t you dare wreck my delusions …. Damn it is cold here in the winter).

I probably am considered to be running around in my underwear here but I love the patterns and colors of some of the leggings that come with the long dresses and like to use them with outfits. (hey this is my little imaginary world … I can do what I like) I can wear leggings and feel like the party is always happening AND the flower patterns cover up the prison stripes really well too. Could be why that gang of Fashionistas on that street the other day were all pointing and laughing at me and calling me “panty-head” – even though I was NOT wearing them on my head … I swear!!

The flower collar is not because I am trying hard to fit in with the real fashion bloggers but simply because it is the only way to cover up my regular collar … slipped off the leash again .. hehehehe.

Chasing The Morning.

This entire outfit which I love love love was only $150L at Sugar (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Tipton/48/21/401). It comes with the hat, the boots, everything except the hair. OR you might win it in MM or one of the lucky chairs. Sugar often puts out their quality items for you to win.

I like some of the thought that went into this outfit … the little veil with the hat has some nice embroidered detailing on it that matches the see through underskirt. Lots of little “peeks” with this dress that make it a bit naughty (which I always need encouragement with) and sexy. The garters and the striped stockings finish the look and I love the laced detailing on the shrug – the front, and particularly the back.

So I was hanging out trying to act like a candy cane but people kept asking about getting their hair cut, which I finally started doing ….and hey it is amazing what you can get away with by just saying “oooh “ a whole lot, and “this soooo suits your face …,” and “soooo chic ….” (that’s my French classes coming through there folks). Even the one guy … when I accidentally cut of part of his ear …. I just said, “Van Gogh baby … sooo in this season ….” I made a whole lot of money and am going shopping now. But if you buy this dress you better not be hanging out on my corner ….

SKIN: Red Queen - http://slurl.com/secondlife/Magic%20Isle/110/132/41 - Sun

HAIR: Vintage Wear - http://slurl.com/secondlife/Horst/64/146/1004 (VW) London Import - Black Tones - $250L

She Walks In Beauty.

Hey I slept all night with my hair in pin curls and with tissue stuffed everywhere – I have no idea why but evidently that is how you achieve this look (and my bra looked amazing for once)and so I went for it … mind you this information came from a really old lady at the bus stop who had sorta' purple hair, smelled of cats and old peppermints (or maybe it was peppermint and old cats … I forget…) and had those kind of elephanty brown hose that wrinkles all down over your shoes and makes you think … “hmmm she kinda looks like a Shar Pei when the sun hits her just right ….” So maybe I shoulda' checked with Shay … she knows all about these kinds of things … like which ear you stick your gum behind before you take a picture ….

So now that I have my hair like this I am just gonna' stand myself in a corner each night … not that it could move being sorta' cemented in with shellac (ran out of hairspray). I think I have to register it as a lethal weapon though cause one of the hairs came loose and it almost poked my eye out.

Anyway … this dress – the complete outfit you see here is FREE!!! AND (you might want to sit down for this one …. The one free click you make … gives you several color options). So run right over to Bijou (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Bijouaholic/156/138/58 )and get yours (it’s down in the basement wayyyyy over in the right hand corner along with 3 other freebies…) Um … don’t mention my name on account of I was so excited I kind of made a commotion and was escorted off the premises by one of those automated shop assistants who let me tell you … was a lot more animated than you would think ….woooo did she say some words to me that I had never heard…..(wrote them all down in my little book).

The shoes are ones I bought some time ago .. you know my earlier confession … love them and no idea where I got them or how much they cost but MadamG Zagato designed them and she does not seem to be doing shoes anymore from reading her profile.
The hair I added cause no-one likes a bald avi. And alright the story about the pincurls … you can go that route OR you can go to Ingenue (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Lo%20Lo/201/90/22 ) and get Ingenue ~ Senorita ~ Cinnamon for $100L. That way you can stand your hair in the corner when you are done and your head doesn’t have to go with it …

Webbed Wanderings

This is just a mish-mash of great pieces for me. I started with a top from an evening gown – designed by Darrly Chang and took the skirt from Elate’s "Emily" (you can buy it with a cute sweater in different colors or just the skirt) and put them together. Added flowers and neck ribbon from Sugar and threw on a dressy pair of earrings from Virtual Impressions.

My shoes which cannot be seen in the main photo are from Alegria Designs and they are really fab which is why I am including the pic from the store. I have been stopped three times now and asked about the shoes. They look great and come in several different colors and are only $100L.

Orange Marmalade.

Love this piece of the healing hands from Salutaris http://slurl.com/secondlife/Salutaris/215/113/22 it is a great location to just hang out and decompress a little ... focus on some quieter things ....

The dress is from Sari's. It is a great little place set up as a number of tiny open buildings around a central simple courtyard. The colors are bright and happy and invite you to just enjoy the day. She has hair, lots of cute little nick nacks as well as a good assortment of sari’s and such. Whether you are a bohemian, a flower child, hippie or just like some really different things – this is the place to go.

I am wearing a dress that was either free or included in a hunt in shadings of orange, muted reds and paled saffron. The textured chiffon is presented in a series of different ways on the one dress from flowing freely, to gathered, overlayed, and even ruched. Detailed embroidery on the bodice of the dress and the handful of appliquéd flowers also catch the eye. It is good example of the kind of work and detail you will find there. She has a new dress out for free right now that I also just picked up.
I put this outfit together with shoes from Kalnins – though pricey again – there are so many choices one can make by coloring the different parts of the shoe to match any outfit - they are worth it. The jewellery was chosen to compliment the dress and comes from a variety of sources as listed below. Lemania and the stores surrounding her always provide such fantastic gifts in their monthly hunts. The necklace from Finesmith Jewelry is one of my favourites - being my birthstone - you can choose yours or just the color that appeals to you and it also comes in a choice of cuts.

Necklace - FS**FINESMITH JEWELRY DESIGN**- http://slurl.com/secondlife/AMITYVILLE/34/145/22 -*FS* Birthstone eightcut necklace topaz ($100L)

Buyer Beware!!

BUYER BEWARE!!!!!

It may not be considered the polite thing to do but I do believe that people need to know if there is a problem with customer service. Let me first say that I have found 99.9% of vendors and designers to be not only fair, but generous when they have made mistakes. They are prompt to rectify them and often provide heartfelt apologies, and it isn’t unusual for them to send a little something extra – which they have no obligation to do.

However, I want to warn you about the customer service at two particular stores. Kiko’s and JM Mai. Both are skin stores and was the reason for my visits. In both incidents I purchased a large number of skins from their stores and brought other customers to them. Concerning Kiko’s – there is a card in place that we were encouraged to buy – having enough points to earn us another skin. We paid the extra money, went to purchase the other skin and the card would not work. The gentleman was standing right there, observed us buy the original skins, buy the card, and attempt to purchase the free skin. When we explained we had not received the skin, he suddenly was unable to understand us and he refused to honor the cards. We left after wasting more time than I can say there. A letter to him formerly requesting our money back was not replied to.

With JM Mai, I purchased a skin, checking and double checking which one I wanted, selected my choice, checked again, and clicked to buy. I accepted the purchase, and later that day when I went to put the skin on, I realized it was the wrong skin. I went back to the store to double check the one I clicked on was clearly the one I wanted. It was – it read one thing but the skin I got when I clicked on it was not the skin that was delivered to me. I sent a letter to the owner explaining and she conversed quite well with me until about half way through the exchange when she claimed to again not be able to understand English well. In fairness to her, she had that same note on her profile at the time – even though that has now been removed and replaced with an elaborate statement which is most likely intended for me concerning this incident. (if it isn't .. she obviously has a lot of customers who are not happy) I knew I had not chosen the wrong button because I have done that in the past and am so careful about making my purchase now, checking and double checking before I click AND I went back to the store to check again. Even if it was my fault – after myself and my four friends had purchase some 14 skins between us it would have been good customer service to at least have been polite to me, and even provided me with the skin I was missing. We are talking about $3.50 here – not a lot of money to keep a happy customer. She could easily see from the records I personally had purchased 8 or 9 of her skins, so how much was I trying to rip her off? Even when I wrote her that I would not be shopping there again and I would not encourage others to support her, there was no attempt to apologize or rectify the situation.

Let me be clear that it is not the quality of her work I am complaining about – she is a talented and gifted designer and I loved her skins, but unfortunately her beauty does not seem to apply to her personal integrity.

It may not be that big a deal to consider the money I lost in these transactions as it is equally small on my part – however there are a goodly number of people who are in SL who don’t have money to waste and for them it would be a huge loss. She had no way of knowing which I was, but she could verify I had only been on SL for a few months at the time. I guess the old saying stands – BUYER BEWARE.

Wanting to end on a positive note – again let me reiterate that this is not the case with most of the designers and store keepers, and you should always contact them if you have a problem. Often these things are something they are grateful to know about and to rectify – such as a product not being delivered or a glitch in the system. They usually prefer you to send a notecard as they are busy people and their mail often gets capped easily. They will need to know the date, the transaction number, and the name of the item purchased as well as a brief outline of your concerns. Give them a little bit of time – remember not all of us live in the same part of the worl. Always read their profile information as it often gives important info on how to deal with problems – they may even direct you to a different person who handles customer service.

I also advocate dropping a notecard once in awhile to compliment those store owners and designers you admire and appreciate - sometimes it is all they need to brighten their day and keep them going. It takes such little time and can mean so much.

Happy Shopping.

Shadows of White.

Just love lazy days. Casual in white again, with a bit of sultry sexiness lent to me by the teasing cut of this summer stunner. I like the adapted t-back in this connected with a more substantial higher collar and then a buckle on each side. Alegria Garden got the balance of this dress perfect, keeping it on the side of elegance instead of letting it slip into a more provocative frock. Alegria Designs is a great store with lots of your bikini and summer needs and plenty of great shoes – check them out sometimes there is an unexpected sale mixed in among them.

I set the dress up with a single gold bangle made by Midas Blazer for Slitheen. I really like some of his jewellery and it is all reasonably priced. The store itself has a smattering of hair, clothing, tattoos, skins and great boots. There are full permission items for sale here as well. Lots for Neko’s.

Chose simply elegant strappy white sandles from Shiny Things at $100L. Lots of colors to choose from here.

The new skin (for me) from Glance is a favourite – I believe Whinter Paine introduced me to this one as well. The hair from Cake has a bit of old Hollywood Glamour in it and flows while I walk, swirling around with every movement. Very feminine.

Beauty in the Color Brown.

There Is a Beauty in the Color Brown

Cute Poetry - Nicholas Gordon

There is a beauty in the color brown
Which brings to mind the muted light of caring.
Earth tones: roots, ground leafmeal, seeds, and soil;
Nuts and bark, broad rivers thick with toil;
Tree trunks in a clearing, nothing wearing,
Yet holding high their single woven crown.

For me brown brings to mind your caring eyes,
Innocent and gentle as a doe's.
Vested in your love, my own love grows;
Each thought, each hope, each breath within you lies.

Demure today. Found this warm earthy brown jacket at the Costa Rica shopping complex – which I really enjoyed exploring. It is by Aleida Rhode for Fashion Nomads which covers everything from jeans to Haute Couture. This piece comes with a couple of sleeve options and a great scarf which allows for greater versatility for your wardrobe. As the name implies, the body of the jacket appears to have a mosaic like texture, with a plain matching collar and lapel. The large belt has a textured silver buckle for some nice detailing.

I paired the jacket with pants taken from a Donna Flora $10L outfit from her special table up near the front of the store that always has several steals like this. Cal Rogers is the designer and the pants seem to me to be of a raw silk. Nice compliment of the beige with the brown jacket – both warmer tones.

The Leopard Stilleto’s from Wetherby’s are also a great deal at $10L – taken from the third floor wall of many shoes at the same price. I liked them because they are classic and they capture tones from both pieces of the ensemble.
Rich chocolate brown hair from Boon, classic cut with sweeping bangs, keeping the look neat and preppy-ish in its presentation. I did not want to add any jewellery to take attention away from the jacket or to compete with the hair so I added a hair-band for just a touch of girlishness – also in complimenting colors.

I like the make-up on this skin from dhR – darker eyes, natural lips, all adding to warm softness.

FREE SKINS!!!

The Gnubie Store – what a find!! All of these skins and more – almost 50 in each pack of 4 skin choices are yours ... FREE!! Each style comes with coloring for blonde, black, brown or red and has a freckled and plain version for each. Shown here, I am using Pleiades, fair (Another skin) all in the black plain and freckled tones. Designer Eloh Eliot has done these and I think they are really cute and fun.

Lots of really pretty necklaces can be found on one of the 4 floors in this store and there is so much more!! Whinter took me to this store to look at a few things and I was amazed at some of the finds. Houses, accessories, clothing, fun things .... the nice thing is there is a little something for everyone, no matter what your style, men included. I picked up a sweet beach building with open walls, a fire pit and seating ... all done in what looks like redwood. It was designed by Forseti Svarog who teaches intermediate building at the Design Center, Idea City.

A Busy Day!!

Busy day today, interviews, shopping, and a fab lunch with a dear girlfriend ... need something that takes me all those places and still make me feel fab and feminine. This dress from MEB is perfect in its understated elegance. Flirty, fun and sexy . . . I love the look.

The short skirt allows for a long clean leg with a smart matching pump included in the purchase. The white detailing on the heel of the shoe catches the eye and as you are drawn up the legs to the skirt and then the bodice, MariaElena Barbosa adds another little punch with some nice black buttoning effect.

With my hair up, a different pump, more glamourous earrings and a soft wrap I would be ready for a romantic night out. Great dress!! MEB has a great selection of clothes, all exquisitely made and detailed, everything from casual to dressy.

Jewellery once again from Chloe and chosen for its quiet compliment to the dress. My hair is from Little Heaven. I love the chic look of the short short hair styles. Lara skins are so pretty that they can take the short hair and still let you achieve a very feminine presentation.

White on White.

Nothing says summer to me more than white on white. There is something about heading back to your room after a warm day spent lazing around the beach in your swimming togs or shorts, showering, and changing into a soft white dress to head out for a romantic dinner on a patio somewhere, watching the sunset. This soft sweet dress floats around you as you move. The not quite wrapped-around top provides a sensual compliment to the barely there gauze of the layered skirt. It just seems to wrap you in its softness and caresses the feminine.

I chose simple slip on white shoes, my hair tossed up in a quick knot on top of my head, and added a soft ballet-pink bow. Earrings and jewellery all adding to the halo effect and nothing in itself drawing the eye.

A couple of good grabs with this set include Chuculet dollarbie store which has so many great things, I always load up on everything and seem to discover them at moments like this and feel like I just found something tucked away in my drawer that was really special, and I forgot about it ... little touches that mean a lot.

The earrings may seem pricey but are so versatile and the set comes with both black and white pearls and options for style. Pearls are always a basic for any wardrobe.
The hair is also really worth it considering the price. Again, I think people may tend to pass over some of these designers and their stores, discounting them for a fashion look, when they are actually really good and adapt easily into a more adult looking environment.

May I just also say that I love the simplicity of Leezu’s dress and apologize that again, this was one of my earlier dresses and as such I do not have the pricing information, etc. I went back to the store but was unable to find it. I can tell you it was either a freebie or did not cost too much as I knew nothing about Lindens when I started. My point here is that newbies tend to overlook the nicer stores thinking they cannot afford them and I have found most designers to be very generous and many of them even have special packages put together for newbies – so don’t be intimidated ... go and look around. It’s just like going to a good fashion store in RL and getting ideas of what is in style and then keeping an eye out for either a sale or something that looks similar but is cheaper.

I love Lara skins, this one seemed the perfect, soft compliment to the outfit. The lips are not overdone and appeal to me as a look I use in real life.

Magenta Wine.

Personally I wish we could all dress like this in every day life ... just running to grab a carton of milk from the store. But what were those two little teeny tiny obstacles that always seem to get in the way?? Oh yah .... that would be time ... and money. But hey – that’s only in RL ... in SL there are oodles of both. I am sure that other people do lots of other interesting things but let’s face it ... for a lot of us women it is all about the fashion and the shopping. (ok and I have really taken to the art of avi-tipping ... like with the cows but much more fun ...)

The rich deep magenta of this aDiva lace gown caught my eye right away. Colour options always fascinate me with clothing and the texture and cut of something always seems to dictate one choice above the others. This was it for this dress and it is the only choice available. AnneJoy Paine always seems to design by complete instinct and she is right on the money with this dress. The way it moves is quite elegant. As I posed, the dress seemed to just mould itself into the perfect alignment to accent the design and my shape. The dress transforms from beautiful to exquisite with a simple turn of the body and introduction of the gorgeous layered train.

I used the beautiful Gothic set of jewels designed by Eshi Otawara that is unfortunately, no longer available. Shoes are one of my favourite black pumps by N-core – liking them mostly because they have such a high heel and give the dress the status it deserves. Sometimes when I wear these shoes it can be all about the shoes but in this case they were to silently partner the dress and they did it beautifully.

My hair – the always exquisite Tukinowaguma. I thought the hint of the veil perfect to add just a hint of the mysterious and a punch of drama. And I, if nothing else, am ALLLL about the drama!!! (only when it comes to fashion ... don’t you even think about starting any of the SL personal drama nonsense with me ....)

Turquoise Tease.

Casual and fresh this turquoise layered lace skirt flirts with the viewer, showing allowing occasional glimpses of the matched lace shorts underneath, providing both modesty and charm. Riding perfectly on the hips, I chose to accent it with a diamond belt from Glitter that I received from one of the hunts .

Wanting to keep the feeling of the skirt, I chose a light see through blouse, removing the bow from the front and keeping the gauzy feel of the blouse, adding a pretty white lace virginal bra from Dragon and Rose , one of the great little shops surrounding Lemania Indigo’s castle and always part of her many hunts. This set came from one of those hunts. Shoes were a perfect casual match, stolen from another Lemania package from one of her retired designs.

I love the new Red Queen Skins and matched this one with hair from Vintage, liking the bangs and the straight severity against the soft girliness of the outfit. Jewellry is another recent find for me from Gems and Kisses that was just enough of an impact without overpowering the overall balance.

Blue Cinder

This Neko Style Blue Cinder dress comes with other options not shown here and allows you a number of choices in skirt style making this a very versatile and worthwhile outfit at $295L. I like the stockings and the way the skirt splits open when you shift your hips, allowing for a little thigh to show and that ever seductive view of the top of the stockings. It makes, what would otherwise be a somewhat casual functional skirt outfit for day wear - into sooo much more. Nice tight bodice can be removed to show some abdomen and suspenders are also optional. Outfit also comes with wrist sleeve additions and the subtle shadings of blue and black make this a definite favourite.

Instead of boots, I paired it with a simple pair of black Mary-Janes and threw on some casual hair. Kurotsubaki hair is a great buy at only $100L per hair and while you might think that styles are young (as per the pics used to promote them) they are actually quite effective when worn. Try them!!

Closet Diving

Every once in awhile a girl just has to bit the bullet and dive in .... to her closet that is. So once I managed to get on all my safety gear, I did exactly that. Pulled out an outfit I am sure I either got from a freebie place or on a hunt. I can speculate because when I first came on, I got ticked off with all the "extra junk" in the folders and being a real fashion genius (a very impatient fashion genius) I threw out all the pertinent information ... I was young and naive with no-one to guide me ..... THIS was a folder like that.

So I searched for the designer and it appears her store is gone or moved. Still ... I want to credit her Cattleya Harker ... I like the 70's feel to this ... feel like I should have a long cigaretter holder in one hand and a glass of white wine in the other ... lounging in front of the fire. How come they could make smoking look so glamourous in those old movies??

OOH LA LA..

Ah.... to wander the streets of Paris in my little coat dress ....nothing to do but stand around waiting for the picture-perfect-postcard folks to take a snappy. This outfit comes complete with the cute little hat for a touch of whimsy (just in case you start taking it all too seriously and are thinking about changing your name to Audrey). You can buy this in either black with white detailing or white with black detailing.

One thing I really appreciate about SL is that even though a store may not be exactly my style ... there are thousands of little gems like this waiting to be discovered and with a little imagination ... you are set. No matter what, I always appreciate the work and effort of the designers here on SL - their vision is always entertaining and captivating ... and always manages to inspire me. Kudos.

Pretty In Pink

Donna Flora was one of the first stores I found when I began my SL journey. I counted my meagre pennies and watched her freebies religiously. Now I am a big wig fashionista (lol meaning I figured out how to buy lindens) I shop there regularly, still appreciating every freebie given. Her clothes have a distinct flair to them and she seems to be willing to always experiment with textures and her colors are often delicate and well blended. It takes you back to a time when glamour was a way of life and dressing in one of her gowns makes you want to find the nearest jazz club and dance the night away. Her lines are often simple and very elegant.

Ballet pink is one of my favourite colours and she does it beautifully here. I usually don’t match outfits with the same designer jewellery but her jewellery is equally terrific. I like her things because she pays attention to size and scale. If I am going to wear something I would like it to be at least seen – especially the earrings.

Although her style is a throw-back to the old holly-wood glamour I paired the look with a much more modern and simple hair style from VintageWear Hair which works well with the outfit.

Shoes are from Battle Fairy and I could not find them when I went back to check so I am not sure they are even available. Retro Hobo and Slips Ons Peaches are similar and include a matching handbag – they sell for $300L. Battle Fairy(Grace Selene) does fantastic shoes and when I went back to check and took Whinter, we both overspent our budget.

When Life Asks You to Dance...

Sometimes in unexpected moments we find ourselves completely caught off guard by beauty. That was the case for me yesterday as I dashed madly about hunting with some friends. We were caught up in the frustration of hours spent searching for impossible small objects, tping (when it worked) to the wrong slurls, navigating back and forth from sl to internet, picking up our precious finds and rushing on. We were tired and cranky and so when I suddenly saw this dress called Napoleon's Passion at New York Couture at Mystic, Mystic http://slurl.com/secondlife/Mystic/238/145/23 I found myself stopping and smiling.

I stopped and savoured the moment, thinking about afternoon garden parties of long long ago in kinder and gentler times. I immediately knew where I wanted to photgraph the dress and I could not wait to put it on. Pricey at $500L - it was worth every penny to me. I kept it in my inventory, not even wanting to open it until the next morning when I could focus all my attention on it. It was my happy little secret.

Sometimes life issues an invitation to put on a pretty dress and dance in fields of flowers .... life asked ... and I danced ... most of the afternoon.
